Encarnacion, Sy Shine in Victory
Sophomore Raiven Encarnacion had 20 points and Ramatoulaye Sy went for 17 points and 15 rebounds as the Oswego State women's basketball team pulled away from Cortland in the second half to earn a 70-57 road victory. THE BASICS Final Score: Oswego 70, Cortland 57 Location: Whitney T. Corey Gymnasium - Cortland, N.Y. Records: Oswego 2-11 (1-5 SUNYAC) | Cortland (5-7, 1-5 SUNYAC) HOW IT HAPPENED The game was decided in the third quarter when Oswego turned a small halftime lead into a ten point advantage courtesy of a 13-5 run to start the second half. Cortland immediately cut the deficit back to four on a pair of 3-pointers, but a Sy layup, Quincey Zimmermanthree and Erin Gantley fast-break lay in put the Lakers up 11 with just under a minute to go in the quarter. Oswego ended up taking a 10-point lead into the final quarter but saw that lead shrink to four at 61-57 with 4:22 remaining in the game. From that point forward, the Lakers held the Red Dragons scoreless while hitting six free throws and a three from Encarnacion. Forward Rachael Windhausen helped Oswego begin the game on an 8-1 run with three straight layups sprinkled around a pair of free throws by Sy. A 12-2 run by the Red Dragons gave them momentum, but Oswego responded with an 8-0 run of their own on a layup by Sarah Feminella and six points by Encarnacion. Cortland would tie the score at 18-18 with a 5-0 run to end the quarter. The second quarter was a back-and-forth stanza that saw six lead changes and five ties with Amanda Altes coming off the bench with six points in the quarter to put the Lakers up 34-32 at the half. Sy led Oswego with six assists while Windhausen had 10 points and six boards. Zimmerman chipped in with six points and eight rebounds. Oswego won the rebounding battle with Cortland, 48-31, and hit 45.1% of their shots compared to 28.8% for the Red Dragons. WHAT'S NEXT The Lakers head down to Oneonta on Tuesday for a 5:30 p.m. game against the conference's second set of Red Dragons. @OswegoAthletics | FB: OswegoAthleticsOfficial | IG: oswegoathletics

83 Students Recognized for Leadership at SUNY Oneonta
SUNY Oneonta recently recognized 83 students who have attained leadership milestones through the college's LEAD (Leadership Education and Development) program. LEAD@Oneonta is a comprehensive leadership program based on current research and guidelines from the Council for the Advancement of Standards in Higher Education. All students can choose to participate in the LEAD program, which aims to better prepare them for life after college by providing a comprehensive picture of leadership and the skills needed to be a good leader. Students can attain a silver, gold or platinum level. To attain each level, students must meet a mix of programmatic and experiential leadership requirements, including completion of online courses, attendance at educational events, and membership and leadership in one or more of SUNY Oneonta's 100+ student-run clubs and organizations. Completion of a leadership level is recognized on campus as a credential that can be used, for example, when running for office or applying for STEP (Student Travel for Excellence Program) funding. The program also provides students with a leadership record that can be submitted to potential employers.
